Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital(RPHGMCH) is a full-fledged tertiary referral Government Medical college. It was established in the year 2018. The college imparts the degree Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). Nursing and para-medical courses are also offered. The college is affiliated to West Bengal University of Health Sciences and is recognised by the National Medical Commission.[1] The hospital associated with the college is one of the largest hospitals in the Birbhum district. The selection to the college is done on the basis of merit through National Eligibility and Entrance Test. Yearly undergraduate student intake is 100 from the year 2019.[2] The medical college is divided into two campuses, main campus beside SH 14(District Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital, Academic Block, Girls’ Hostel, Boys’ Hostel, Intern & PGT Hostels) and the other at Chowk Mandala (Boys’ Hostel & Staff Quarters).
Rampurhat is a rapidly growing township in Birbhum District in the Indian state of West Bengal. It has a dynamic connectivity with other places of West Bengal and neighboring states via state highways, national highway and rail route. Rampurhat Junction is one of the busiest railway stations in eastern India.
As of Census 2011 Rampurhat has a total population of 57000 of which 29070 are male and 27930 are female. It has got rich heritage. The local tribal people, mostly belonging to the Santhali groups, and Boul community striving to maintain their culture.
The decision to establish a Medical College here by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of West Bengal is a boon for the people of the Rangamati region.
