Founded in 1876, Johns Hopkins is a reputed private research university located in Baltimore, Maryland, US. The university has four campuses in Baltimore with satellite campuses in Maryland and a biotech hub north of Washington, DC. Hopkins’ graduate programs include reputed School of Medicine, School of Education, Whiting School of Engineering, highly ranked Bloomberg School of Public Health, and renowned Peabody Institute for music and dance.

The university is hailed as the first US research university also, it invests the maximum money into research than any other US educational institution. Popular majors offered by the university are Biomedical Engineering, Neuroscience and Neurobiology, and Public Health. With 3,000 international students from 120 countries that account for 20% of the student body, the university offers a truly global and diverse environment. The university has 10 divisions with campuses in Washington D.C. and Maryland with Italy, Singapore, and China as international centers. The Homewood Campus located in Baltimore’s Charles neighborhood has two undergraduate divisions including the Whiting School of Engineering and the Zanvyl Krieger School of the Arts and Sciences. In East Baltimore, there are the medical institutes of the university namely the Bloomberg School of Public Health and the nursing school. The university also comprises various other departments and facilities including the Applied Physics Laboratory, Peabody Institute, Carey Business School, and the Paul H. Niltz School of Advanced International Studies. It is difficult to get into John Hopkins with an acceptance rate of 11%.

The majority of the Johns Hopkins undergraduates study at Homewood, a sprawling 140-acre North Baltimore campus, which is also home to the schools of engineering and arts and sciences. Almost all the undergraduates live in the main campus in residence halls during the first two years where they experience one of the best campus dining programs in the US. All students who are studying BA in General engineering are also encouraged to devote at least one semester studying abroad. Also, medical and nursing students are free to take medical electives in 19 countries.

There are 39 Nobel Laureates from the university. The first affiliated laureate from the university was Woodrow Wilson who completed his Ph.D. in the year 1886 from Johns Hopkins University. Johns Hopkins Laureates shared four Nobel Prizes namely George Whipple and George Minot in 1934 won the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Herbert Spencer Gasser and Joseph won in 1944.
