Govt. Thiruvarur Medical College was started in 1^st April 2010 in Thiruvarur District at the Master Plan Complex, Vilamal Village, Thiruvarur.  This Government institution was started to meet the needs of the rural people and  make quality care accessible to every person  and also  to meet the  growing demands of meritorious students of the backward areas of the state for professional medical courses. Student strength of 100 per year. was sanctioned by the Medical Council of India and the first batch of 100 students began their classes on first August 2010.   This medical college is affiliated to Tamilnadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University, Guincy, Chennai.
