The institute was established in the year 1956 under the Government of India. Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, Puducherry is also known as JIPMER. In the year 2008, JIPMER Puducherry was declared as an “Institution of National Importance” under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India by an Act of Parliament, JIPMER, Puducherry. The super-specialty block, the trauma care centre and the auditorium of JIPMER was inaugurated by the former President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam along with Dr. Anbumani Ramadoss in 2008. The campus of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research is spread over 192 acres and has a well-developed infrastructure and modern amenities. With a faculty strength of 326 members and 1571 students enrollment, JIPMER Puducherry offers a total of 88 courses in the streams of medicine and allied sciences, sciences, pharmacy, arts, humanities and social sciences.

The institute is located at Jipmer Campus Road, Gorimedu in Puducherry. The nearest airport to JIPMER is the Puducherry Airport, located 5.6 km and students can reach the campus in about 10-15 mins. The nearest railway station from Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education & Research is the Puducherry Railway Station which is located 6.6 km away and students can reach the institute campus in approximately 15 mins. Jayanthi bus depot is approximately 2 km away from the campus.

JIPMER Facilities

Hostels, library, sports, cafeteria, auditorium, etc. are some of the JIPMER Puducherry facilities. The campus has separate hostels for boys and girls that ensure a comfortable stay at the campus. The rooms are well furnished. The library has a humongous collection of books and readers can also avail the facility of a digital library. BASLP	Pass in class 12 in the relevant stream
M.P.H	M.B.B.S/B.D.S/B.E/B.Tech/B.Sc. (Nursing)/B.V.Sc. (Veterinary Science)/AYUSH/Allied Health or Social Sciences from any recognized University/Statutory Body and should have at least 50% marks in aggregate
M.D	MBBS is needed for MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch with 55% and BDS for MDS from an institute recognised by the DCI or MCI. +One year of rotatory internship and must have completion certificate.

JIPMER Admission

One can take admission TO M.B.B.S., M.D., M.S., D.M., M.Ch., B.Sc., M.Sc., B.ASLP, M.P.H., Ph.D and P.G.D programmes offered by Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research. JIPMER admission to the M.B.B.S programme is offered to candidates who have qualified NEET. INI CET is considered for JIPMER Puducherry admission to MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch programmes. JIPMER M.B.B.S Admission Process

• Apply and appear for NEET.
• Meet the JIPMER cutoff.
• Register and participate in the NEET UG counselling process. 
• After the seat allotment, get the documents verified and pay the JIPMER fees.

JIPMER Admission Process for B.Sc./BALSP Programme

• Submit the JIPMER application form.
• Appear for the common entrance exam conducted by JIPMER.
• Secure a minimum of 50 percentile.
• Participate in the counselling and then get the documents verified.
• Pay the requisite JIPMER Puducherry fees.

JIPMER Admission Procedure MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch

• Apply and appear for INI CET conducted by AIIMS Delhi.
• Meet the INI CET cutoff.
• Participate in the INI CET counselling and select JIPMER as their preference.
• Once seat has been allotted, get the documents verified and pay the required course fees. 

JIPMER Ph.D Admission Process

• Qualify any of the following exams – Joint CSIR-UGC NET for JRF/UGC-JRF/ICMR-JRF/ICMR-SRF/DBT-JRF/DBT-SRF/Inspire Fellowship/UGC SRF/CSIR-JRF/CSIR-SRF/DST-JRF/DST-SRF.
• Submit the JIPMER Puducherry application form.
• Qualify the viva voce examination conducted by the Ph.D Admission Committee.
• Selected candidates have to complete the necessary admission formalities.

JIPMER Scholarship

Candidates aspiring for a JIPMER scholarship can avail of the national level scholarship by applying on the website of the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). These scholarships can be availed only of he/she meets the eligibility criteria. Some of the scholarships that can be availed by the students of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research are Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for SC Students, Ishan Uday – Special Scholarship Scheme For North Eastern Region, Post-Graduate Indira Gandhi Scholarship for Single Girl Child Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for College and University Students.

JIPMER Cutoff

For admission to M.B.B.S and MD/MS/D.M/M.Ch/MDS JIPMER Puducherry cutoff is released every year. JIPMER cutoff for the M.B.B.S programme is based on NEET scores whereas for the PG programmes, INI CET scores are required. Candidates have to mandatorily meet the JIPMER cutoff in order to secure admission to these courses.
