Manipal Tata Medical College (MTMC) at Baridih, Jamshedpur, in the East Singhbhum District of Jharkhand, is a premium institution for medical education and training under a consortium initiative between Tata Steel and MAHE Manipal. MAHE Manipal has been formally recognised as an Institution of Eminence (IOE) by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Govt of india via signing of an memorandum of Understanding (MOU) during Oct 2020.
With only three medical colleges in Jharkhand, the establishment of MTMC will help augment availability of trained doctors, improve healthcare facilities, and thereby contribute to the well-being of the local populace. This initiative will also contribute to the increase in medical seats for aspirants of medical education in the State.
Under this consortium initiative, MAHE Manipal has created necessary infrastructure for a medical college at Ardeshir Dalal Memorial Hospital (ADMH) Campus in Baridih, spread over 20 acres. A total of 150 seats will be made available for MBBS students annually and the Tata Main Hospital (TMH), Jamshedpur, is the attached teaching hospital of MTMC Jamshedpur.
This consortium is the first private-private partnership in the country that has been created in accordance with the Amendment Gazette Notification No. MCI-34(41)/2019-Med./112859, dated May 14, 2019 by the Medical Council of India (MCI). The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW), GOI and the Medical Council of India (MCI) have taken this initiative with the objective to enhance greater participation of the private sector to increase the number of medical colleges in the country to meet the shortfall of doctors and thereby augment the health-care sector without compromising the standards of medical education.
