The five colleges are:
Each college has been approved with an intake of 50 MBBS students, taking the total number of newly approved MBBS seats to 250.
Before the approval, the applications for these five proposed medical colleges were assessed by the NMC. In June 2026, the applications were not approved after deficiencies were identified during the assessment process.
The reported deficiencies included areas such as infrastructure, faculty or staffing, equipment and mandatory documentation.
The five colleges were proposed at Kawardha, Janjgir-Champa, Manendragarh, Dantewada and Kunkuri, with a planned intake of 50 MBBS seats at each college.
Following the subsequent regulatory process, NMC approved the opening of all five Government Medical Colleges for the 2026–27 academic session.
The approval brings 250 additional MBBS seats to Chhattisgarh:
| Medical College | MBBS Seats |
|---|---|
| GMC Kawardha (Kabirdham) | 50 |
| GMC Janjgir-Champa | 50 |
| GMC Manendragarh (MCB) | 50 |
| GMC Geedam (Dantewada) | 50 |
| GMC Kunkuri (Jashpur) | 50 |
| Total | 250 |
The approval of these five medical colleges is an important development for NEET UG 2026 and MBBS counselling in Chhattisgarh.
Candidates should, however, check the latest official NMC seat matrix and counselling notification before considering these colleges during choice filling. The final availability of seats, quota details and counselling participation should be confirmed through the relevant official authorities.
The five new Government Medical Colleges in Chhattisgarh have moved from an initial NMC assessment in which deficiencies were reported to subsequent approval for the 2026–27 academic session.
With 250 MBBS seats approved across Kawardha, Janjgir-Champa, Manendragarh, Geedam and Kunkuri, the development is relevant for students preparing for or participating in NEET UG 2026 counselling.
ShikshaMed will continue to provide important updates related to NEET UG 2026, MBBS admissions and counselling.
